Why “The Why”

Between the rapid acceleration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and an obsession with productivity and optimization, there’s been a noticeable shift in priority.

While well-intended, with goals such as organizational sustainability, Return on Investment (ROI), growth, and customer satisfaction at the forefront, it can place the emphasis solely on completing the next task.

This often leaves employees cycling through endless lists of items without an opportunity to understand the meaning behind their contribution. To recognize the value they’re adding and how it fits into a larger context.

A fundamental component of Motivational Interviewing is supporting someone to understand “their why” (the reason for a behaviour) because this makes that behaviour (or task) more meaningful. Taking time to communicate this creates alignment, ensuring everyone is working towards the same goals with a shared vision.
