The Ingredients To Sustain Change

There are many sayings that capture the prevalence of change, including “the only thing guaranteed is change”, “change is the only path forward,” and “change is inevitable.”

With everyone experiencing and dealing with change on an almost daily basis, you’d expect us to be collective change experts.

Yet, this remains one of the most challenging aspects of life for many people, especially when it comes to sustaining the changes we actively choose to make.

Motivational Interviewing is largely centered around this unmet need for individuals across various situations and environments, with a particular focus on sustainability.

As a practice, it recognizes that someone needs to understand why this new version of their life will be better aligned with who they want to be or their direction. Otherwise, they’re extremely likely to revert to their previous behaviours or circumstances out of familiarity. This is what makes change-based conversations and guiding someone through the process so powerful.
